“Golden” Paste gets its name from the gold hued property of its primary ingredient, Turmeric. While Turmeric has been a go-to spice and staple in both the Indian and Chinese cultures, it has traditionally been used in Eastern medicine to treat a variety of health problems. In Western medicine, it’s popular because of its antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties. Studies have shown that the primary compound in Turmeric (Curcumin) is known to help reduce inflammation and joint pain, help build a stronger immune system, heal skin-related issues, and even prevent allergies.
While you can purchase pre-made Turmeric Paste, a homemade recipe is much better than a store-bought version.
- 1/2 Cup ground turmeric
- 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 Teaspoon fresh grated ginger (you can substitute 1 teaspoon ground ginger instead of fresh)
- 1/4 Cup coconut oil
- 1 Cup water
Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and place over medium-low heat. Whisk to combine and cook until it forms a paste, and the coconut oil is fully melted. Once the oil fully melts and everything is fully mixed, transfer to an airtight jar or container, and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. It is important that you do not overheat it as the primary compound in Turmeric (Curcumin) loses its benefits when it is cooked for longer periods.
